Re-Training Your Thoughts
by Ezell Cook Jr. on 07/01/11
You may fool others with
your words, looks or gestures but you will never fool yourself!
Have you been trying to be or think that you already are a more
positive person? Have you been reading self improvement books
and doing loads of personal work with deep introspection? Maybe
you study the scriptures regularly. Are you catching thoughts
and words that don't serve you and replacing them with more life
and self affirming variations? If this describes you, then
congratulations with your work on self growth and awareness.
Today I want to point out a few ideas that may still be sliding
through your amour.
The first one is to watch how you talk to yourself, even if it
is, just the little voice in your head. Decide that berating
yourself is not acceptable behavior. We all know that putting
other people down is a no no, but often all bets are off when it
comes to scolding one’s own self. Many times a day when we make
mistakes we will talk to ourselves and say ("How could I have
been so stupid", or "I am such a so and so"...) I think you get
the picture. This self chastisement does not serve you, and
let’s hope that there are no young minds watching and repeating
this, to their own detriment. Please replace this behavior with
self affirming jargon such as ("That was one juicy lesson for
me", or "I rise to this occasion and I will be stronger and
wiser next time" or "When
you know better you do better"). Even a simple phrase such as ("Really!" or
"Unbelievable!" and "Never again") are preferable to any self
debasement. You also have to be on the lookout for common
phrases used when speaking to others in jest, such as ("Your
killing me man!" or " I'm dying here bud" or how about "Just
shoot me, put me out of my misery".)
I'm sure you have heard of or may even use this rhetoric as well
as some other expressions and colloquialisms, but I would
encourage you to re-think these phrases and eliminate them from
your vocabulary. Our subconscious doesn't always understand our
own humor, so when we use words with emotion, over and over
again our subconscious starts to believe us. It starts looking
for ways to accommodate us and low and behold you may find
yourself having habits of misfortune or worse yet, health
problems seemingly out of nowhere; but wait there is a good
ending here. If we can create undesired consequences just by the
simple repetition of negative words, thoughts and emotion; what
if we use that same formula to acquire healthy or positive
results? Yes that is right, I am saying repeat positive words
with confidence, over and over again and add positive thought,
emotion and qualities such as (Joy, Love, Conviction,
Exhilarating Expectation) and you will manifest something to be
proud of!
This is actually part of the formula that I write about in my
soon to be released book
From Pain to Power.
I'm holding a good thought for you all. I hope you will put
these tools to work and keep me posted. Send me some of your
affirmations!
Peace Be With You,
Coach Ezell
